JUSTICE FOR AJ

Help Anthony’s Mom fight for her son’s innocence

When Anthony’s mom Opal moved to the United States in 2001, she was a single mother with 2 young children ages 2 and 10 years old.  She believed she was coming here to do God’s work and also provide for her children and to give them a better opportunity in the United States.  Now, his mother has to be fighting the criminal justice system to gain freedom for her now 27 year old son Anthony McNab, who was accused and convicted of armed carjacking and conspiracy.  Opal knows her son is innocent and will not stop until his name is cleared.  She has exhausted all her finances including everything of value she owned and eventually lost her home to foreclosure as; her finances were depleted due to mounting legal fees that made it hard to keep up with other bills. During that period her family and friends did what they could to help with the legal fees as they also did not believe that Anthony committed a crime and that he is innocent.  Anthony is currently serving a 39 year sentence in a Florida prison. He was waiting for a favorable ruling from his first appeal but unfortunately he received a denial in October 2015. However, this has given Anthony another opportunity to go back to the trial court for a second chance to appeal his conviction.

Opal needs assistance to come up with $15,000.00 dollars in order to retain a post-conviction trial attorney to fight the next stage of his appeal.  Her son has a second chance to return to the trial court to prove his innocence. Therefore, she will need to find the money to pay for this new attorney to represent him in the post-conviction process and the appeal time clock is ticking.  If Anthony is successful in winning the appeal and is granted a new trial she will also need additional funds to pay the attorney for the second trial which is, an unknown sum at this point. During the trial process of Anthony’s case, Opal’s friends, family, church community, along with Anthony’s soccer team, and coaches were her support, she also had to get several personal loans to pay the exorbitant attorney’s fees.  Opal is seeking the help of extended family and friends because she is unable to get any more loans, her close family, and friends are depleted financially to help in this new appeal/ trial process.

Anthony has always been a young man of integrity who would never intentionally set out to commit a crime. Therefore, his family is doing everything in their powers to help him and they are seeking any kind of help to meet their goal.  The Justice for AJ  foundation was formed to bring awareness of the injustice within the criminal justice system and how it works or don’t work when the State takes the statements of habitual offenders who knows the system and will make plea deals for shorter sentences or to be on the streets. Therefore, causing it to fail a person in Anthony’s position and sending an innocent man to prison.  There are many more cases similar to Anthony’s where innocent men are in prison because they are in the wrong place, at the wrong time, with people who have committed a crime.

The goal of the foundation is not only to help Anthony, but also to help the families of other innocent men and women who are in a similar situation. In our continued effort to fight for Anthony’s freedom we have written to Florida’s Governor Rick Scott, President Obama, and other state legislators.  We have posted pictures of Anthony on Facebook and the website to give everyone an idea of the kind of individual he is and where his life was going when this unfortunate tragedy struck in 2011.  Everyone who knows Anthony admires his well-mannered behavior, gentle spirit, and the respect he shows to others. He has loved playing soccer from the time he was 6 years old and that love continued over the years winning him many trophies for the various teams he has played with.  Anthony was attending Broward College on a soccer scholarship, had dreams of playing professional soccer, and was actively working towards that dream when this unfortunate circumstance altered his life and ultimately his dreams.

If this story of Anthony “AJ” McNab has touched your hearts please make a onetime donation of any amount or you can set up for recurring monthly deductions from your account.  Although we are trying to assist Anthony we also have other innocent people we would like to help but are unable to do so because of the limited financial resources to process legal documents.

We thank you for your generous donations, support, and continued prayers for Anthony and his family.
